Lecture: Introduction to Lithuanian history
Lithuanian history is really complicated because of its location at the crossroads of Europe. It changed its rulers and political systems many times.
During the lecture you will get basic understanding about how this country developed. Started as Grand Duchy of Lithuania it could successfully defend itself from Teutonic invasions and become the biggest country in Europe. However, later it made union with Poland before completely disappearing as a state in late 1700s. After more than hundred years in Russian Empire, Lithuania again succeeded to declare independence in 1918. However, this short time of being a Republic came to end during the Second World War, when Lithuania was occupied by Nacis and Soviets. And yes, three decades ago Lithuania became independent again.
